Nick cycling challenge

Frogmary Fun and FUNdraising

As the winter months draw to a close, what a month February has been... started with snow and finished with a new record of sunshine hours and heat! This is helping with ground work including digestate spreading and ploughing ahead of spring crops being planted.

Along with our other annual events this year, there is one major event that is taking place this summer that Nick has been working especially hard on. Nick has been training exceptionally hard for a cycling challenge that he decided upon 18 months ago in aid of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution. His challenge will see him cycle 3000 miles in 30 days across Canada this summer.

Nick has had an amazing amount of support from family, friends and colleagues over these last 11 months of training. Adele and Rob at Adele Martin PT are helping Nick to complete his goal by offering training and nutritional advice. With a background in cycling, AMPT can provide Nick with the best challenge specific training and advice needed to complete his cycle across Canada safely.

We have been providing Nick with strength, conditioning and endurance training. Over the next few months we will be increasing Nick’s hours on the bike, getting miles in his legs and continuing with personal training and weight sessions. A combination of these training types will increase Nick’s strength, fitness and endurance ensuring he will be able to push through the pain barriers and gruelling miles he faces in Canada.

Alongside all the physical and mental training, AMPT have also supplied Nick with nutrition plans and advice to ensure he is fuelling his body correctly, enabling him to maintain his muscle mass throughout this hard training period.

With just over four months to go to the challenge, we’re doing all we can to raise as much money as possible for R.A.B.I. Watch out for special fundraising events on our social media pages and if you would like to support Nick, head to his Virgin Money Giving fundraising page and make a donation today.

Huge thanks go to AMPT for their training support, Stable Design for fundraising and promotional support and Fendt, Compass Tractors and Draper Ventilation as main sponsors of the challenge... and to everyone who has donated so far. All of your help and support is very much appreciated.

We have started work on an exciting new project to add an extra five acres to the arboretum with extra lawns, tree planting, shrub beds and a new amphitheatre. Phase one, which has included some soft landscaping, sowing grasses and a huge area of a wildflower mix and planting many new trees and shrubs, is now completed. This has all been carried out with help and guidance from Tony Benger Landscaping.
